Should Saddam Hang?
52,6 % Yes
39,9 %  No

A respected Flemish survey website, De Stemmenkampioen (The Voting Champion), recently asked if Flemings thought Saddam Houssein should hang or not.
The results: 52,6 % think Saddam should be hung, while 39,9 % think that, for ethical reasons, the death penalty should not be carried out. The rest, 7,5 %, had no opinion.
About 10.000 Flemings participated. There seems to be a clear division between the political right and the political left. Those who vote for right wing parties like Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest), CD&V (Christian Democrats) and N-VA (New Flemish Alliance) want Saddam to get the rope. The left wing parties, who don't base their political agenda on a religion, like SP.A (Social Democrats), VLD (Flemish Liberals) and the Greens are against the death penalty.
Or otherwise put: the Christian parties are pro institutional murder, just like it says in the Bible: "Thou shalt not kill, except when you really, really want to".

I understand your anger. As an agnostic I am a little bit out of my league, but as far I understand the Shiite government has declared that the Offering feast in Iraq begins on Sunday morning. The Sunnis however let this feast begin on Saturday morning. If I were a Sunni Muslim I also would be offended that the Shiites make 'their' date the official one without taking into account Sunni sensibilities. And of course Saddam was a Sunni.
On the other hand the government has declared that Saddam Hussein was hanged two hours before sunrise. So technically the Offering feast, whichever date you adhere to, hadn't yet commenced.
All in all it doesn't bode well for Iraqi unity and peace and IMHO it once again shows how religion, any religion, has a negative and divisive effect.
